Subway will offer electric vehicle charging at select store locations.
Subway wants to make things more convenient for drivers of electric vehicles.
The restaurant giant, which is exploring a potential sale of the company, is partnering with GenZ EV Solutions, a provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, on an initiative that will eventually include the opening of “Subway Oasis” charging parks at select locations. The parks will feature charging canopies with multiple ports, picnic tables, Wi-Fi, restrooms, green space and playgrounds.
As part of its multi-year plan to roll out the charging parks, smaller-format, fast EV charging stations will be piloted this year at select, new or newly remodeled Subway restaurants. GenZ EV Solutions is working with Red E Charging, a fast-growing EV charging network, to provide the equipment and operating expertise for the EV charging stations and Subway Oasis.

Subway is partnering with franchisees of both traditional and non-traditional locations to identify sites for both smaller-format EV charging stations, as well as Subway EV Charging Oasis parks in the future. The company intends to offer dedicated company promotions, available only while a customer is utilizing an EV charging station.

Subway focuses on non-traditional growth
Subway is focusing store expansion on non-traditional locations, including interactive, fully unattended smart fridges. In addition to Subway Oasis stores and stores with smaller EV charging stations, the company plans on opening “grab & go” stores that serve customers who are in a hurry. These include Subway’s first-ever smart fridge, opened in September 2022 at the University of California San Diego.
Subway operates nearly 37,000 stores across more than 100 countries. Subway restaurants are owned and operated by Subway franchisees.
